Hurricane Isaias Recovery

What to Do After Hurricane Isaias

  1. Stay safe. Stay off damaged roofs and away from downed lines. Shut off power to wet rooms if it's safe to reach the breaker.
  2. Stop more water. Get the roof tarped and dried in. Move belongings out of wet rooms.
  3. Photograph everything. Before anything is moved or removed, take photos and video of the roof, ceilings, walls and floors.
  4. Start drying within 24–48 hours. Wet drywall and insulation get harder to save every day.
  5. Contact your insurance company if you plan to make a claim, and confirm coverage before you sign a contract.
  6. Hire a licensed contractor. Verify any contractor's license with the Florida DBPR before work starts. Ours are CCC1336657 and CBC1268975.

Beware of anyone who offers to pay or waive your deductible, offers gifts for an inspection, or asks you to sign over your insurance benefits. All of those are illegal in Florida.
