Water Damage Mitigation After Hurricane Isaias

Stop the Water. Open It Up. Dry It Right.

After a hurricane, water gets into a home two ways: through a damaged roof and through walls, windows and doors. Either way, the clock starts immediately. Wet drywall, insulation, flooring and cabinets that sit for more than a day or two become harder — and more expensive — to save.

Mitigation is the work that stops the damage from spreading. Our crews:

  • Tarp and dry-in the roof so no more water gets in
  • Extract standing water
  • Take moisture readings to map exactly how far the water traveled
  • Make clean, level flood cuts above the wet line and remove saturated drywall and insulation
  • Pull wet baseboards, flooring and cabinets when they can't be dried in place
  • Set commercial air movers and dehumidifiers and monitor until the framing is dry
  • Photograph and log every step

Then we rebuild. Because Metro Builders is a licensed Florida building and roofing contractor, the same company that dried your home puts it back together — and fixes the roof that let the water in.

What a Clean Flood Cut Looks Like

A flood cut is a straight, level cut through drywall above the highest point the water reached. It exposes the wall cavity so wet insulation can come out and air can reach the studs. Sloppy, jagged cuts waste drywall and slow the rebuild; clean cuts dry faster and patch cleaner. These are ours.

Questions We Hear Most

How do I know if water got into my walls?

Stains, bubbling paint, soft drywall, swollen baseboards and a musty smell are the usual signs, but water can sit inside a wall with no visible sign at all. We use moisture meters to map wet areas before deciding what to cut.

How long does drying take?

Most rooms dry in three to five days with commercial air movers and dehumidifiers, depending on materials and how long the water sat. We take readings daily and don't close walls until the framing is dry.

Do I have to move out?

Usually not. We contain the work area and dry room by room. If a kitchen or bathroom is affected, we'll talk through options with you.
